Where's Our Water (Incursion)

Stage 3

Students will be acquiring geographical information by observing and collecting data through fieldwork, using maps and numeracy skills. They will examine the importance of water to the environment, animals and people and learn about the ways people value environments.

Activities:

  • Introduction – introduction of EEC teachers, purpose of the incursion and activities to be completed.
  • Read the book ‘Where’s Our Water?’, written for Hunter Water by Aboriginal students from Newcastle High School.
  •  Investigative walk to collect and evaluate data on the water being used in your school. Create a map of water fixtures and water wastage problems.
  • Conduct a water wastage experiment using numeracy skills.
  • Water saving relay race to engage students in discussions about water conservation and management.
  • Conclusion: where to from here?

 

This incursion will assist students to begin a journey using the steps of the Sustainability Action Process.

This incursion is 1.5 hours in duration.
