Program
Grime Scene Investigation is a challenge day for students to support talent and development in the intellectual and social-emotional domains.
This is a free event for Department of Education Schools.
Grime Scene Investigation is a challenge day for students to support talent and development in the intellectual and social-emotional domains. Teams of 4 students from different schools are presented with a challenge relating to the local environment. The problem replicates a ‘real world’ style issue linked to the curriculum areas of Science and Geography to make it purposeful. Students collect data, apply reasoning and formulate a response to the environmental challenge. They communicate their findings to their peers and make recommendations for the local council to consider. This develops talent in the social-emotional domain by influencing others and communicating effectively, and in the intellectual domain by having students engage in authentic, challenging problem-solving.
Activities may include:
- Analysis of water quality and issues
- Examination of erosion and management
- Investigation of human impacts, human use and management
- Habitat assessment and biodiversity survey
Locations:
Fly Point, Port Stephens
Denman, Upper Hunter
Pelican Foreshore, Lake Macquarie
